Tableau is a self-service analytics platform that provides access to various dashboards, visualizations, and tools to help understand and manage the university's data. 

Tableau dashboards are built on data that comes from Banner and, depending on the dashboard, can be updated daily or during key reporting periods. Additional information for individual dashboards is available on request.

The Office of Institutional Research is committed to providing reliable data, statistics, and reports to the campus community. We work to expand our dashboard lineup and continually enhance our existing dashboards to support this mission. We encourage feedback and many of our dashboards have developed from discussions with our users. If you have suggestions for a new dashboard or how to improve existing dashboards, please email viz@louisiana.edu. We will work with you to identify your development needs and license requirements. Pricing for licenses will vary depending on contractual obligations and your development needs.

Accessing Tableau

1. You will need a license to access UL Lafayette's Tableau Dashboards. Licenses are limited, but you can request access for a license by emailing viz@louisiana.edu. When provided a license you will receive an email from Tableau to set up your account, along with an onboarding email containing documentation to the environment.
2. Offices, departments, and individuals fulfilling an administrative role at the university are eligible to request a Tableau license. Specific dashboard access is granted based on a user's business requirements.
3. The Office of Institutional Research serves as the UL Lafayette Site Administrator and maintains accounts across the university. Please email viz@louisiana.edu if you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to make a request.
4. By logging into Tableau, the account holder/user is agreeing to the terms of the University Comprehensive Information Security Program.

Tableau FAQs

Q: Who has access?

Tableau access is available to faculty and staff on a limited basis. Dashboard access is granted on business requirements. Please email viz@louisiana.edu to request access.

Q: Is there training available for Tableau?

Yes, Tableau offers free resources for Tableau viewers. Once approved for a license, additional UL Lafayette resources and documentation will be made available.

Q: Do I need to download Tableau?

No, you will not need to download and install anything on your computer to view Tableau dashboards. Users will be able to access Tableau in a computer lab or on their personal devices provided that they have an up-to-date web browser installed (i.e. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox etc.).

Q: I forgot my username or password. How do I access my account?

The Office of Institutional Research will be able to retrieve a lost username. If you have forgotten your password, you will need to reset it using Tableau’s Reset Password Page.
